About BA Carts
BA Carts is a sister company of Custom Audio Concepts. Lynn Whitaker started Custom Audio Concepts back in 1994, designing and installing automotive, residential, and commercial audio/video systems. Custom Audio in just 2 years became nationally and internationally known for being the best car audio installers in the country winning 13 first place trophies at the world finals for installation and sound quality. Custom Audio has been featured and has written articles in over 800 car audio magazines. They have done numerous installations for stars, pro athletes, recording artist and even a Sheikh from Saudi Arabia. A few years ago Lynn wanted to buy a golf cart for camping, Lynn being an anal-retentive, OCD, perfectionist realized he should buy an old cart and we rebuild one, so he did just that along with his business partner Steve Adams. Steve & Lynn have succeeded in growing multiple companies together by contributing both of their skills. Lynn's skill being his perfectionist personality, and Steve's skill being extensive experience in mechanics after being a mechanic in the Army and being a Licensed Honda® Motorcycle Master Mechanic. Before Steve and Lynn could even finish Lynn's cart, Lynn sold it to a Custom Audio customer, as they did the second, the third, the fourth cart, and what started as just a side hobby, turned into the company, BA Carts.
After BA Carts conversion from a hobby to business, we knew we needed to create a real goal for each cart we sell and each customer we have, and our goals are as followed:
- 1. Build custom carts to the best of our ability, by not buying any cheap parts, not taking any short cuts, and only using skilled labor.
- 2. Only sell products we personally believe in, regardless of how it affects our sales.
- 3. Take care of our customers, before and after the sale.
We at BA Carts have worked hard on being the best cart rebuilders in the USA, and are still working on it, so please read our business plan below to understand why we are "BA Carts and not "Just Carts".

Purchasing:
We purchase our carts through a golf cart broker, thankfully our broker has been in the business for over 35 years and knows golf carts inside and out. Brokers will rate golf carts fleets 1 thru 10, 1 being basically junk (good for parts) and 10 being brand new. We purchase fleets that are rated 7 or higher. Which means these carts are in very good shape mechanically and cosmetically. We can make a 3 rated cart look exactly like the carts you see on our website but mechanically they have more worn parts, the clutch - linkages - pedal assembly - motor wear.
Our fleets come from Northern states, which is important because they have about half the wear and tear as Southern carts due to the fact Northern golf courses close for winter. Most of our fleets also come from private golf courses. Why? Private courses have more through service procedures on their carts and the only people driving the carts are the private course members who will typically treat the carts better than the public. So the bottom line is, we pay for quality. There is a $600 to $900 difference (wholesale) between a fleet that is rated a 3 and a fleet that is rated an 8. Could we build good looking carts on a 3 Rated Cart, yes we can, but we don't believe in putting lipstick on a pig. Our carts look good, but run great.
Building Preparation:
- 1. Tear cart down to just the frame and engine.
- 2. Using industrial power washer to get off the dirt and grime.
- 3. Giving the frame an acid bath to remove any additional gunk
- 4. Again power washing off the chemicals used for the acid bath.
- 5. Replace any parts that have noticeable rust.
- 6. After allowing ample time to dry the frame is then repainted with rust prevention paint.

Mechanical:
- 1. Perform leak down test on motor to test the motor's compression.
- 2. Valve Adjustment: The intake and exhaust valves will loosen their "Gap" over time and not "hit" simultaneously. We reset the valve's gap and make sure they hit correctly.
- 3. Carburetor: Carbs are removed and dismantled, we then run the parts through our sonic cleaner which cleans the carb to "like new" condition
- 4. Clutch: We remove both the primary and secondary clutches, take them apart, and inspect springs and weights. We replace what is needed and clean the clutches so they perform the way they were designed.
- 5. Linkages: Over time the linkages (brake - gas - choke - gear selector) will need adjustments or replaced, we set all these back to factory specs.
- 6. Pedal Assembly: Under the floor mat contains the pedal assembly (brake and gas) which has several moving parts, these are inspected, cleaned, greased and replaced if necessary.
- 7. Filters, fluids, fuses, spark plug, and belts are replaced. We use Mobile 1 Synthetic oil in the motor, oem (orginal equipment manufacture) oil in the rear end.
Our B.A. Rebuilding Process:
Now that we have spent 8 to 10 hours on the prepping and mechanical of the cart. We can finally start rebuilding the cart.
Body:
The majority of our cart's bodies are repainted; most of those paints jobs are performed by Sweitzer's Performance Center in Bucyrus Ohio. Sweitzer paints thousands of bodies each and every year using automotive style paint and clear coat. Every cart we build will have several new oem parts including rocker panels, dash and cupholders, motor covers, bagwells and etc. We use only original equipment manufactured parts and not the cheap Chinese knockoffs to assure fit and finish.
Suspension:
We install Jakes heavy-duty rear springs on every cart we build that has a backseat or cargo box. This is kind of a catch 22 as the heavy-duty springs will reduce the cushy ride but is needed to support the weight of rear passengers and/or cargo.
Lights:
We install the best light kits available. There are many different light kits to choose from but most of them are your typical ball style light, these ball style light kits will usually become loose and/or break overtime. The Madjax kit you see on most of our carts cost 2 to 3 times as much as the less expensive ball lights. The Madjax kit is a one piece design and includes an automotive style daytime running light, brake lights, turn signals, emergency flashers and a horn.

Windshields:
We install Madjax's highest line Windshields because they are thicker than that of cheaper knock off windshields. They also will not turn yellow overtime like knock off brands. The same top quality parts are used for the rest of the cart including mirrors, wheels, tires, marine 12 volt chargers (included on every cart we build), lighted rear license plate bracket (optional for street legal carts), steering wheels, brush guards, nerf bars, seat kits and the list goes on...
If You Want a Lifted Golf Cart Then Lets Talk About Lift Kits:
We believe that an a-arm lift kit is the proper way to lift a golf cart compared to the less expensive, less strong, spindle lift kit. Why? Just look at the images below. You can see how much more steel is involved in the a-arm lift kit compared to that of the spindle lift kit. A golf cart typically weighs 600lbs; now add another 800lbs - 1000lbs if four people are on it. Would you feel safe driving 18 mph down the road with an A-Arm lift or a Spindle lift? You also notice how wide the spindle lift makes the front of the cart rather than keeping the wheels in their width like an A-Arm lift kit does. Does the spindle lift's wider stance help prevent the cart from flipping? Absolutely it does, but good luck trying to make that tight turn up ahead. The differences between A-Arm and Spindles are obvious so why doesn't every dealer use A-Arm kits on their built carts? Well because they cost three times more and take three times longer to install.

Our Warranty:
Every cart that goes through the B.A. carts restoration process will include a 1-year mechanical/parts warranty. But even after 1-year we will stand behind what we have built. You can ask several customers who have purchased their carts from us over a year ago how hard we still work to provide them with the best service possible without breaking their bank. The reason we do this is we know that word of mouth is the best advertising and treating a one-time customer right can turn that customer into a customer for life. The story of the $30 part is great representation of our warranty. A while back a customer called Lynn and said he ran into a tree and messed up the front suspension and that he dropped his cart off at our shop. 3 days later Lynn called the customer to say your cart is done and it will be $30 for the tie rod end.
The customer asked "only $30!!!?". Lynn told him "yeah, only $30, but we also rebuilt a few things on your cart because you bought your cart 2 years ago and since then we have vastly improved our rebuilding process". The customer was very pleased, but the shop mechanics weren't so. They told Lynn "we had 10 hours of labor and $150 parts in that cart Lynn!" and Lynn told them, "take care of customers, they take care of you". Low and behold, that customer showed up the next day to pick his cart up but without a trailer, because he decided to buy one of our trailers. He also brought his friend, that friend decided to buy a cart from us. That friend came back a week later to pick his cart up, and brought ANOTHER FRIEND, that friend told us "anybody that takes care of my friend like you guys have deserves my business!" That friend also bought a cart. So the $30 part turned into two sold golf carts and one sold trailer. Does this happen with every customer of ours? Nope. But do we treat every customer the same? Yep.
So if you have read all the down to here on the page. Thank you! We have a method to our madness here at BA Carts and we feel that it's appropriate to explain our madness to our customers. Why? Because we're a transparent company, what you read is what you get, we're honest, and know what we're talking about. So now that you know we will not be beaten on price, quality of product or service, get in your car and come meet us at our showroom. We're probably open right now because we work way too much.
